Gearing Up for Globalization
15 Aug, 2016

Huffingtonpost shares the testimonial of Verelyn Gibbs Watson, a mother whose five-year old daughter is trying to teach her the Mandarin she is learning at school.

“Every week, she picks a new word to focus on. Her favorite methods include testing my comprehension by interspersing English and Mandarin in simple requests, like pointing to the fruit bowl and asking “Mommy can you pass me that Pingguo?” and checking to see if I choose the apple.”

Impressed with her daughter’s IB learning experience, Watson has explored a variety of research and conference statements about the IB and learning in a rapidly globalizing world.

“I know from personal experience as a parent that we want to do everything we can to give our kids an edge and make sure they won’t be left behind,” she says. She is happy that her daughter will have the opportunity to learn in an environment that embraces a global perspective and approach to education as the norm and not the exception. Her daughter’s pre-school already offers language enrichment as part of the core curriculum for toddlers.
